FOR THE RECORD
Thousands of people receive treatment for heroin addiction through
Government or Government-funded services each year. Your Monday Focus
said that only 320 people received treatment for heroin problems in
the Government's program.
This figure refers to people who were detoxified through only one
program. Other treatments include 2000 on methadone, 600 treated with
naltrexone, 350 detoxified through Government services and a further
1300 others who are in drug-free residential and outpatient programs
in community and non-government organisations.
