TWIST OF EVENTS

DID anybody else notice the surprising twist of events last week? On
the evening news, we were proudly introduced to the latest weapon in
the fight against drugs - a very cute border collie, trained to assist
in the apprehension of visitors attempting to smuggle drugs into our
prisons.

The commentary was that this little "K9" would help stop the erosion
of the "moral fibre of our society".

Meanwhile, within 24 hours, the Lower House passed a bill to legalise
prostitution, while the Legislative Council, without apparent
consultation with the police force, agreed to change the three-plant
limit for "personal use" marijuana growers to 10 mature plants.

What can we make of all this? It would seem that the "moral fibre" of
our prisons is in better hands (paws?) and has a brighter future than
it does for the rest of us in the wider community. Does this seem
strange to you?
