RENO HONORS PFINGST FOR FIGHT AGAINST DRUG SMUGGLING

District Attorney Paul Pfingst was honored by U.S. Attorney General Janet
Reno yesterday for helping to crack down on drug smuggling in San Diego County.

At a Washington ceremony, Pfingst was presented the William French Smith
Award for Outstanding Contributions to Cooperative Law Enforcement for his
work with the U.S. Attorney's Office in San Diego in fighting drug smuggling.

Pfingst was nominated for the award by Gregory Vega, U.S. Attorney in San
Diego. In the past five years, federal and county prosecutions of
border-related felony drug cases have more than tripled, according to
Vega's office.
