OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF NEW DARE CURRICULUM COMING SOON

Although the new and revised Drug Awareness Resistance Education
(DARE) Curriculum has been implemented in the primary and secondary
schools around the Federation, its official launch is not scheduled
to take place until later this month.

The revised curriculum was introduced to prospective and existing
DARE officers from St. Kitts/Nevis and other countries of the OECS
some two weeks ago. These officers underwent two weeks of training
in St. Kitts.

The new curriculum was to have been launched last Thursday however,
it has to be postponed and Local DARE Officer Matthew McGuire
explained that the launch should be held in the near future.

"We would have liked to have a press conference but it was not
convenient and the media did not show up. So we thought it best to
forego that but hopefully during the week of the 23rd, we, locally,
will be officially launching the new curriculum by way of a press conference."

The revised curriculum has been described as being "somewhat better"
than the previous one because the DARE teachers play a more
facilitative role whereas with the previous curriculum, the DARE
teacher provided most of the information.

Also the revised curriculum, as opposed to the former, is taught
over a shorter period of time.
