DOCTOR'S TRIAL BEGINS TODAY

[Name redacted] Charged In Relation To Overdose Death

The trial of a former Abbotsford doctor charged in relation to the
death of a patient is scheduled to get underway today in B.C. Supreme
Court in New Westminster.

The trial of [Name redacted] was originally set to begin on Oct. 2,
but was delayed after Crown counsel received some last minute
information they needed to review, said defence lawyer Michael Tammen.

[Name redacted] is charged with criminal negligence causing death in
relation to the May 2000 death of patient Christena Constible.

In May, he was ordered to stand trial on charges of both criminal
negligence manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death.

However, his lawyer noted then that the elements needed to prove both
charges are the same.

The manslaughter charge has since been dropped.

The charge against [Name redacted] relate to the mixed drug overdose
death of Constible, 20, not long after she received what's believed
to be methadone from [Name redacted]
