WHERE DOES UDALL STAND?
Dear Rep. Udall,
I write to ask for your position regarding the Colorado Medical Marijuana
Initiative that will be voted on in November. In recent years similar
measures have passed wherever people have had a chance to vote on them.
Cannabis prohibition has created a bit of a popular prairie fire across the
nation. The people want major reforms in this area, separate and apart from
what they may think of other, harder drugs. Most feel that we should permit
medical doctors to prescribe cannabis, along with the multitude of other
drugs, all of them more risky than pot, that they can already prescribe.
Did you know that the American Medical Association testified against
congressional moves to outlaw cannabis in 1937, when pot prohibition and
reefer madness began. It is outrageous that we still cling to this terrible
policy which criminalizes one of the most useful and positive herbs known
to civilization. Pot's roots grow deep in American history and culture
(what remains of it).
Your public support for Medical Marijuana in Colorado will put you safely
on record with a comfortable majority of constituents, certainly with
Democrats. Polls show the measure may pass with 70-plus percent statewide.
