LONDON POLICE WARN OF DATE-RAPE DRUGS

LONDON, Ont. - A 35-year-old London woman was taken to hospital by
friends Sunday morning after fainting repeatedly at a local drinking
spot, police said Monday.

Tests showed the woman had drunk a combination of pharmaceuticals
including GHB and Rohypnol, a drug that can cause drowsiness,
confusion and amnesia.

The woman, who had not been assaulted, was treated and released from
hospital the same day, police said.

They said it's likely the drug was slipped into her drink at the
bar.

"She'd been to another place, but she was at (a second bar) for a
period of time before she started feeling the effects of it," said
Det. Sgt. Rick Harriss.

Bar staff could not be reached for comment.

The incident is not the first time a woman has been drugged with GHB
in London.

Last January, bodybuilder Christopher Humphrey was convicted of sexual
assault and sentenced to 30 months in prison after giving a woman a
drink laced with the drug.

GHB is a clear liquid that can create euphoria and sexual arousal.
Vials sell for $20 to $50. Rohypnol, or "roofies," is legally
available in some countries and sells for about $5 a pill.
