CN ON: PUB LTE: SHOULD WE LEGALIZE MURDER?

Congratulations! Your response to a letter arguing for legalizing
marijuana, "We can't stop murder either, do you want that legalized too?"
is the dumbest one yet. Ingesting marijuana harms no one else. Murder harms
another person. Am I going too fast for you?

Alan Randell Victoria, B.C.

(No. Green argued since drug laws can't be enforced, they shouldn't be
obeyed. Try using logic, not insults)

Reg Green's comments (letters, Aug. 3) are typical of many cannabis users.
I find it distressing, however, that you would compare the futility of
alcohol and cannabis prohibition with that of preventing murder. Not only
does it not make any logical sense - comparing a termination of a life
against someone's will, with the pursuit of a private activity that study
after study confirms harms no one, except the user, and negligibly, at that
- - it makes me wonder if that smell coming from 333 King St. E. really isn't
just another run-over skunk.

Timothy J. Meehan Toronto

(Very clever. Green argued against "drug prohibition" not just marijuana.
Anyway, read Mindelle Jacobs on Page 15 today. You'll like it)
