ILLEGAL INJECTING ROOMS COULD ARISE IF LAWS REJECTED: LOBBY

Supporters of supervised drug injecting facilities have threatened to set
up illegal centres if the Victorian Government's legislation is blocked.

The Community Campaign for Heroin Reform last night held another rally in
support of the facilities, and has vowed to keep the campaign going.

Spokesperson Steve Jollie says this week's decision by the National Party
not to support injecting rooms was not suprising, and he expects the
Liberal Party to do the same.

But he warns the community will take matters into its own hands if that
happens.

"I don't think we've got any choice. We've had 186 people dead this year
and if we just sit back and we just twiddle our thumbs and wait for these
right wing politicians to do the right thing we could have 1,000, 2,000,
3,000 dead," he said.

"We've got a responsibility to the people who are dying and their families
to act and sometimes if laws are unjust they have to be broken."
