HELP GOVT DETECT ECSTASY USERS, MANAGERS TOLD

MUAR: The Government wants company managers and supervisors to help
detect and curb Ecstasy pill abuse among the workers to help the
nation in its fight against the drug.

Human Resource Minister Datuk Dr Fong Chan Onn said they could do it
by monitoring the workers' habits such as coming late for work or tiredness.

"The Government is concerned over the increasing number of Malaysians
getting hooked on the pills. "We have asked organisations to help us
fight such abuses, but, we feel firm managers and supervisors, too,
can do a lot,'' he said after presenting an economic paper at a
seminar organised by the Johor MCA here on Friday.

Dr Fong said the pills were mostly used by those frequenting the
nightclubs for additional energy to dance throughout the night. He
said besides the dangers to health, including kidney failure, those
taking the pills usually arrive late at their workplace feeling tired
and sleepy.
