CHARGED: PNP COLONEL IN JAIL SHABU

MANILA police authorities yesterday filed charges against the police
colonel who was arrested on Wednesday at Manila City Jail (MCJ) for alleged
possession of the illegal drug shabu.

Chief Insp. Arturo L. Paglinawan, chief of the Western Police District
general assignment section, confirmed yesterday that charges of illegal
possession of prohibited drugs have been filed against Supt. Mario Cruz,
45, of the Camp Crame Headquarters Support Unit (CCHSU).

Paglinawan said the Manila Prosecutor's Office has recommended the
indictment of Cruz, and set bail for his temporary liberty at P60,000.

Cruz was arrested on Wednesday after alert jail guards spotted a sachet of
shabu inside the suspect's wallet when he pulled out his police
identification card.
