U.S. VESSELS SEIZE COCAINE, 5 SUSPECTS

U.S. Coast Guard and Navy vessels recovered more than 400 pounds of cocaine
from the sea south of Acapulco and apprehended five men suspected of drug
trafficking, officials said yesterday.

The cocaine was recovered July 21 about 110 miles south of the Mexican
resort city after the drug was thrown overboard from a fast boat, Coast
Guard officials said. Five men were apprehended by the Coast Guard and
transferred to the custody of U.S. customs officials.

The Coast Guard vessel Chase, based in San Diego, brought the drugs and
suspects here Friday.

The packages of drugs were turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement
Administration.
