DRUG TESTS TAILING OFF

Fewer job applicants have to submit to the cup these days as drug testing
becomes slightly less prevalent. It's yet another result of the tight labor
market, says the American Management Association, which recently released a
study on medical examinations in the workplace. Employers scrambling to fill
posts aren't quite as concerned about screening people as in years past.
Currently, 66 percent of major U.S. firms require that applicants take drug
tests. That's down four percentage points from 1999 and eight points from
1998, according to the association.
