WOMAN WHO DIED IN POLICE CUSTODY HAD MIX OF DRUGS IN HER SYSTEM

ST. PAUL (AP) -- A 25-year-old bodybuilder who died in the custody of police
had taken a toxic combination of drugs that included cocaine, Ecstasy and a
painkiller and anti-depressant called Nubain, authorities said Tuesday.

Irene Sherlin died June 12 after struggling with officers, who were called
to the woman' s neighborhood where she was naked and reportedly running door
to door asking residents for help.

The Ramsey County Medical Examiners Office released its findings to police
and officials on Tuesday.

Citing data privacy laws, police only provided general details. They did say
Sherlins death was accidental and sudden, happening during agitated or
excited delirium, something medical experts call a drug-induced delirium.

Sherlin' s boyfriend and roommate told police that Sherlin was hallucinating
and screaming about snakes covering her body. Police said she was
uncooperative and had damaged property.

Officers pinned Sherlin to the ground, handcuffed her arms behind her back
and called for medical help. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Regions
Hospital.

Police said officers acted appropriately.
