CONNED INTO THE PENINGTON DRUG LINE

Sir Rupert Hamer, I fear, has been conned by his elitist old boys
brigade in buying the relentless Penington propaganda on injecting
rooms (Opinion, 7/8), with its sanitised statistics, ad nauseam
repetition of distorted prohibition claims, and assertions of
exclusivity in the compassion department.

We should remember that former premiers are not infallible by virtue
of office or experience, so I hope the Liberal members will continue
their careful consideration of all the data needed for a wise decision.

It is to be hoped they will opt for real compassion. Vote to put our
money and efforts into prevention, intervention and treatment to save
lives, and not be diverted into inflicting more pain on the addicted
and the community by legitimising harmful drug abuse.
