COLOMBIA DRUG BOSS FACES EXTRADITION

The Supreme Court in Colombia has authorised the extradition to the United
States of a jailed drug baron, Alberto Orlandez.

He is wanted by the authorities in New York on charges of cocaine
trafficking, and money laundering.

Alberto Orlandez is allegedly the head of the Costa Cartel, which operates
along Colombia's Caribbean coast, and has been in jail in Colombia since
1998.

If President Andres Pastrana agrees to his extradition, he will be the third
Colombian to be sent to the US for trial, since extradition was reinstated
three years ago.
