STUDENT DEALT WITH IN-HOUSE

A Dunstan High School student found with cannabis at school last week has been dealt with in-house by the school. Principal David Smyth said yesterday the possession or use of non-prescribed drugs was banned at the school.

The student was dealt with according to the school discipline procedures and Ministry of Education guidelines.

When approached for comment last night Mr Smyth would not elaborate on the discipline measures except to say "the procedures" were outlined in the policy.

He would not reveal the gender or age of the student involved to protect the privacy of the student.

Dunstan High School provided an extensive health and drug education programme for students which would be extended to include the whole school community, Mr Smyth said.
