EX-DRUG KINGPIN GIVEN PRISON TERM
MEXICO CITY -- The one-time godfather of Mexican drug trafficking, Miguel
Angel Felix Gallardo, has received a second 40-year prison sentence for
drug smuggling, bribery and weapons offenses.
Felix Gallardo was already serving a 40-year sentence for his involvement
in the 1985 killing of U.S. drug agent Enrique Camarena and for drug offenses.
His latest sentence stems from Mexico's 1985 seizure of an airplane in
which cocaine residues were found. Intense legal maneuvering by Felix
Gallardo's attorneys dragged the case out for more than a decade.
