MOONSHINE MAKERS GET ONE YEAR PROBATION

MENOMONIE -- A Wheeler man and his uncle from Bloomer will spend a year on
probation after pleading guilty Friday to making 90-proof moonshine in Dunn
County.

If Bernard G. Jenneman, 51, and Adrian L. Jenneman, 68, abide by the terms
of their probation, a felony charge of manufacturing illegal intoxicating
liquor will be dismissed in a year.

The two also pleaded guilty to three misdemeanor counts of avoiding liquor
laws.

Dunn County Judge Rod Smeltzer accepted the plea agreement between the
Jennemans and the Dunn County district attorney's office. He deferred
accepting a guilty plea on the felony charge for a year.

The two also were ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs. They must
not violate any other laws during the year probation and must forfeit their
moonshine equipment.

Assistant District Attorney Andrew Maki said he felt this was an
appropriate resolution for the case. It is similar to a plea agreement in
Chippewa County with Elvin R. Scheidecker, who pleaded guilty to charges of
making moonshine.

Defense lawyer William Schembera of Menomonie agreed it was a proper plea
agreement.

"These guys weren't manufacturing the stuff for sale but for their own
personal use," Schembera said.

An agent with the Wisconsin Department of Revenue and Dunn County Sheriff's
Department deputies found seven liquor bottles containing moonshine and a
propane burner widely used to distill the moonshine. The liquor tested at
90 proof, or 45 percent alcohol. The two made the moonshine in November 1999.

Adrian Jenneman told authorities he got the still from Scheidecker.
