ECSTASY AND CANNABIS FOUND IN DISCO

IPOH: Some patrons of a discotheque quickly threw away Ecstasy pills and cigarettes laced with cannabis in a bid to evade arrest when police raided the outlet on Saturday.

The raiding party found five Ecstasy pills and 50 laced cigarettes on the discotheque floor during the midnight operation.

Perak Anti-Narcotics Department acting chief Deputy Supt Kamarulzaman Mamat said 202 patrons, 95% of whom were Chinese youth, were picked up for urine tests of whom 23 tested positive for Ecstasy and syabu.

He said the 23, aged between 18 and 25, were detained for further investigations, adding that they would be charged under Section 15A of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952 which carries a maximum jail term of two years or RM5,000 fine.

The discotheque patrons, many of whom were dressed sexily , hid their faces when press photographers tried to take their pictures but became bold and talkative when the photographers promised not to photograph them.

According to sources, many Ecstasy users sought to scale a further "high'' by smoking cigarettes laced with cannabis while on the amphetamine-type stimulant.
