13-YEAR-OLD BOY AMONG 46 TESTED POSITIVE FOR DRUGS

BALING: A 13-year-old schoolboy was among 46 people who tested positive for drugs in a surprise police check early yesterday. The boy from Sungai Petani was found to have smoked ganja.

Baling district OCPD Supt Hassan Ismail who headed the operation, said the boy was caught with his friends in a car at about 2am at Jalan Ulu Legong, about 10km from here.

He said the boy, believed to be on his way to a hotspring site in Ulu Legong was detained for further investigation.

He said that his parents were notified yesterday morning.

Supt Hassan said the 45 others caught during the operation were men aged between 18 and 25.

All were tested positive for either ganja or heroin.

The majority were from Kulim and Sungai Petani in Kedah, Butterworth and Penang.

Supt Hassan said they were believed to have consumed the drugs outside Baling and were heading towards the hotspring site which was open till late.

They were among 465 people checked at a roadblock at Jalan Ulu Legong between 10pm on Saturday and 4am yesterday.

All those caught would be remanded for several days and charged in court soon, Supt Hassan said at his office here yesterday.
