REAL SOLUTION TO DRUG PROBLEM NEEDED

Wisconsin wants millions to build more prisons. In the meantime, it is
sending prisoners to jails in Texas and other states. Hardened
criminals are being released early to make room for more.

The Coast Guard needs far more men, planes and high-speed boats to
catch drug runners in the Gulf of Mexico and along the Atlantic coast.
The states along the Mexican border have asked for more money to
purchase more planes. U.S. agents are unable to inspect every auto and
truck; the drug czars know this and take the chance that they won't be
caught.

So go the headlines of the newspapers throughout the United States.

President Clinton promised 100,000 more police officers. This is a
waste of time and money. Each year, the budgets are increased with no
end in sight.

There is an answer: Stop the drugs from entering the country. It is the
only solution. Within six months, the problem can be solved.

A concerted drive at the borders can be made by using the Army and
Marines to help local authorities close the borders to drug runners.

A federal law will have to be passed that any smuggler caught bringing
in drugs be arrested and put on trial. If found guilty, beyond a doubt,
the death sentence should be imposed. The defendant can be given six
months to appeal.

The Waukesha County sheriff has asked for $60 million to build a new
jail. The county is shipping prisoners to jails in other counties. He
said the practice is expected to grow and ultimately cost the county
millions of dollars.

President Clinton pledged more than $1 billion to Colombia to help it
handle its drug problems.

The same problem faces all of America. Soon, there will be no funds to
operate our governmental units. It all is like pouring a glass of water
in Lake Michigan to raise the water level.

If we do not stop the drug runners at the border, it is too late. Rape,
robbery and murder are results of not putting a stop to the problem.

Does America want to solve the difficulty we find our country in? It
appears that nothing will be done.
