RE "REEFER Madness?" (Aug. 13): When will Linda Williamson gain even the most rudimentary understanding of drugs? I just can't understand it. After all, she reads all the RCMP drug reports she can get her hands on, even if she does misquote them from time to time. Relying on the RCMP for her information is, of course, part of Williamson's problem. The RCMP's mandate is to enforce the law and it matters little to that organization whether or not the law in question is effective or just.

If Parliament passed a law banning, say, dancing, rest assured the RCMP would soon issue a report informing us that the kind of dancing teenagers do today is up to 2,500 times more dangerous than the sedate waltzes and fox trots their parents used to enjoy. The law punishing Canadians for what they choose to ingest into their own bodies is patently an unjust law. Once the lawyers on both sides have wrung the very last dollar out of the process by boosting drug cases to the next level, I am confident the Supreme Court of Canada will strike down drug prohibition.
