ON LIFE SUPPORT, OR UNCONSCIOUS, IS NOT ECSTASY

Ending up on life support, for any person, would not be what you'd call
"ecstasy." So the word on the new drug in town should now be known - it's
agony.

A local woman ended up hooked to tubes at the hospital this weekend as a
result of ingesting the chemical Gamma Hydroxybutyrate, a drug know as
ecstasy.

Two men who were with her had also passed out at the time she became sick.
They pulled out of it, and awoke. She was saved at the hospital. The three
were lucky.

It is not known whether the three took the drug themselves or whether
someone slipped it into their drinks at a nightclub.

It will be important to answer this question. If you have any knowledge of
the situation, contact police.

Two things about ecstasy are known:

In big doses is can lead to unconsciousness, seizures or severe breathing
problems - it can put you into a coma. Even at lower doses, it can cause
dizziness, drowsiness, nausea and sight problems - it has been linked to the
abuse, especially, of young women.

Dangerous ecstasy is in circulation in Wyoming Valley. At almost the same
time the incident occurred at the local nightclub, a raid in Forty Fort
captured an apparent dealer of ecstasy and a large amount of the drug.

Most drugs at least have names that hint at their dangers: heroin, crack.
Ecstasy has a different kind of name. But it has a similar danger: it can
leave you on life support, or unconscious in a car, or worse. Beware of it.
Stay away from it.
