GO FOR PATCHES, FORGET TREATMENT!

EXCELLENT idea from Paul Drury about having inquiries/trials about the
possibility of heroin patches (Letters, 28 September), but why stop there?

Let's use millions more of taxpayers' moneys on inquiries/trials and
research to come up with cocaine patches, amphetamines patches, Ecstasy
patches, morphine patches, cannabis patches and the like.

Why should these areas be discriminated against? The taxpayer could end up
in court being sued.

And then let's spend millions more on inquiries/trials and research to
produce implants for all these illegal drugs.

I'm sure that's a better way to spend taxpayers' moneys than to use it to
establish a long-term, funded, properly equipped
detoxification/rehabilitation clinic which could provide treatment on demand
and actually make people drug-free.
