ROGUE COPS WRONG

In response to Wendy Swezey's Aug. 21 letter, "Schenectady should be
grateful for its drug cops," my comments are as follows:

I do not support or denounce these two officers. Their fate is before the
legal system, which was designed for the specific purpose of dealing with
this issue. Let the court system decide their fate once all the facts are
considered.

Ms. Swezey's conclusion - that "the people of Schenectady who are not
supporting these cops are pathetic losers who don't care if their kids grow
up on drugs" - is ridiculous at best. The conclusion your readers make from
her comments is that the end justifies the means. What does that teach our
children? That pathetic mentality is just as damaging to society as drugs
and other crimes.

The residents of Schenectady are grateful for its many excellent officers
who serve our community and are role models for our children. These officers
deserve our respect and support; officers Michael Siler and Richard Barnett
deserve their day in court.
