DPS TROOPERS SEIZE CASH DURING SEARCH OF TRACTOR-TRAILER
Department of Public Safety troopers seized more than $2 million Sunday found boxed in the back of a tractor-trailer after the driver consented to a search, said Trooper Wayne Beighle.
Troopers stopped the Peterbilt tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 60 near Bovina about 7 p.m. after spotting the driver not wearing a seat belt, Beighle said.
The driver consented to a search and troopers found eight boxes of cash totaling $2.658 million hidden among other merchandise in the trailer.
The driver, who said he didn't know about the cash, said he was coming from Illinois and was on his way to El Paso when he was pulled over, Beighle said.
