HEMP COULD REDUCE EROSION
Upon reading the article on erosion on the Yukon River problem in Galena
("New package of federal funds may help Galena fight erosion," Sept. 13), I
couldn't help but think, why not plant hemp? It doesn't need fertilizer or
pesticides. Hemp actually improves the soil and it would give young fish
more habitat. Since it is hemp, it would not be psychoactive. Perhaps
they'll give it a try; what is there to lose? The world has used it for
years to prevent soil erosion. Please vote yes for Proposition 5 on Nov. 7.
