LOTS OF RED RIBBON WEEK ACTIVITIES PLANNED

Red Ribbon Week will be celebrated Oct. 23-27 in the Carmi-White
County school system, and this year's theme is "Being Drug Free is
My Responsibility!"

School officials have released a schedule of events planned during the week.

Brownsville Attendance Center

Monday -- Team Up Against Drugs Day. Students can wear their choice
of a team logo shirt.

Tuesday -- Sock it to Drugs Day. Students can wear mismatched or crazy socks

Wednesday -- Red Day. Students will wear red clothing.

Thursday -- "I can, you can, we can." Students will bring canned
food from home to be donated to food banks.

High school

The building theme is "ALIVE," an acronym. A = Awareness of alcohol
and drug abuse. L = Life will be altered by impaired driving. I =
Impact affects everyone around you. V = Vision of a drug-free
community. E = Educate our community on substance abuse. The theme
will be on the marquee and on the Carmi-White County High School website.

Red Ribbons will hang on the front doors of the school. Drug-free
banners will be available for students to sign. Big Red gum will be
handed out to students. Banners will be available in various
classrooms, giving students the chance to write why they choose to
be "ALIVE" and not use drugs or alcohol

Wednesday will be Wear Red Day. Students will be collecting canned
foods to demonstrate that drug free comes in cans: "I Can, You Can,
We Can!" The canned goods collected will be donated in time for Thanksgiving.

Middle School

All week long, students will be collecting canned foods to
demonstrate that drug free comes in cans: "I Can, You Can, We Can!"
The food will be donated to local food banks.

Monday is Sock It to Drugs Day. Students can wear mismatched or
crazy socks to show their support of the theme. Also, students will
experience the MAD SCIENCE (Tobacco) Assembly in the afternoon.

Tuesday is Tie One On Against Drugs Day. Students will be encouraged
to support the theme by wearing ties.

Wednesday is not only Wear Red Day but it is also Band Against Drugs
Day, which is a day where students wear band-type bracelets with
their red clothes.

Thursday is the day that students can wear leis and/or Hawaiian
clothes to support Lei Off Drugs Day.

Crossville

On Monday, students will be given red ribbons and red bracelets with
the theme "Being drug free is my responsibility." Band against
drugs-wear the red bracelets. A Mad Science Assembly will be held
from 12:30 to 1:15.

Tuesday will be Sock It to Drugs Day and students may wear
mismatched or crazy socks. Students will do an activity in the
computer lab relating to being drug free. Students will be treated
to half of a red apple to eat.

Wednesday will be Team up Against Drugs Day, and students will be
encouraged to wear team jerseys or, if one has no jersey, to wear
red. Students will be given a Drug Free Pencil or Activity Book
about drugs and alcohol. They will each plant one red tulip bulb
in front of the school.

Thursday will be Put a Cap On Drugs Day, and students will wear
hats. This will also be a Character Ed Fun Day, and students will
decorate cookies with red icing. Cooks will make the cookies.

Jefferson, Lincoln, Pre-K Attendance Centers

Monday's theme will be "Give Drugs the Slip." Students can wear
their house shoes or slippers to school. Tuesday's theme will be
"Team Up Against Drugs." Students may wear team jerseys, sport
shirts or school colors. Lincoln students will have an assembly at
9 a.m. with Officer Bob.

Wednesday's theme will be Wear Red Day, and students should wear red
clothes to match their Red Ribbons.

Thursday's theme is "Follow your Dreams, Don't Do Drugs." Students
can wear pajamas to school.

Jefferson students will have an assembly on how being responsible
and substance free have helped various community members get and
keep interesting jobs.
