ALCOHOL IS ALSO A DRUG

First the Canadian Equestrian Federation saw fit to strip Eric Lamaze of
his ability to pursue show jumping in Canada, in international competition
and at the Olympics. Before this brouhaha, Don Adams of the CEF said, "The
CEF has zero tolerance for drug use." Which drugs and why? Cocaine is
clearly not a performance-enhancing drug but cocaine use is illegal in
Canada. It seems the CEF and the COA want their athletes to perform clean -
does this mean they proscribe the use of other addictive drugs such as
alcohol, caffeine and nicotine?

If Lamaze had been found guilty of being under the influence of alcohol
while driving a motor vehicle, would the CEF of COA have stripped him of
the ability to perform in his sport?
