MARIJUANA BALLOTS PENDING IN WESTERN STATES
Anthony Cameratta, who suffers from an eating disorder, exhales a cloud of
marijuana smoke at the San Francisco Patient's Resource Center earlier this
week. Voters around the West, from California's pot-growing "Emerald
Triangle," east to Nevada and Colorado and north to Alaska, will decide
whether to loosen marijuana laws in November. Statewide ballots in Nevada
and Colorado ask if marijuana should be legal for medicinal use. Pot would
be legal in Alaska and could flourish in the back yards of Mendocino
County, Calif., if voters approve measures in those places Nov. 7. In the
past four years, similar medical-marijuana measures have become law in
California, Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Maine and Hawaii.
