DEATH OF DOWNTOWN EASTSIDE ACTIVIST LEAVES FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE
GRIEVING
To the Editor:
Re: "Turvey Widow Surprised by Silence," Oct. 18.
On the occasion of the death of John Turvey, I grieve for his family
and for the suffering he went through during his illness.
I also grieve for the change in social climate, for a time when the
creation of a needle exchange was possible and when there was a city
council that supported this.
I grieve for the day when you did not need to protect a safe
injection site from the ignorance of the federal government.
John Turvey and I were colleagues and buddies for quite a few years.
So I also grieve for my own sense of loss and the loss of our youth.
He will rest in well-deserved peace.
