BRITISH EU'S TOP POT USERS
England and Wales are the drug "capitols" of the European Union, with
more cannabis users than any other member state.
Nearly one in 10 adults admits having taken cannabis within the
previous 12 months, the highest in the EU. Britain also has the
largest number of young users, with two in five 15- and 16-year-olds
saying they have experimented.
The EU drug agency in Lisbon, which carried out a survey, said
cannabis was the widest available and most commonly used drug in the
EU.
EU scrutiny of drug use suggested that only Denmark rivalled Britain
for cannabis use. Among 15- and 16-year-olds 24 per cent had tried
it, compared with 37 per cent in England and Wales.
