CANNABIS CONTRACT

Proposal To Grow Pot In Diefenbunker

OTTAWA - The historic Diefenbunker could soon become the Reeferbunker -
Canada's biggest hydroponic marijuana laboratory.

The Ottawa-area nuclear bomb shelter commissioned by former prime minister
John Diefenbaker 40 years ago is being considered as a growing, storage and
research factory for the nation's medical marijuana supply.

Loren Wiberg is an Alberta businessman and one of five people shortlisted
for a Health Canada contract to produce medical marijuana. Wiberg contacted
the manager of the bunker's museum late last week with a plan to use part
of the building for pot-growing.

Health Canada is seeking a supplier of cannabis for people who have
government permission to smoke the drug for medical reasons. The five-year,
$5-million contract calls for the delivery of more than 1,800 kilograms of
the highest-quality marijuana.
