LIONS/LIONESS CLUBS HELP EDUCATE YOUTH
Poster Contest To Address Drug Abuse
AMHERST - How does drug use affect you?
Day after day, the problems surrounding drug use and abuse grow.
In an attempt to help educate the youth of Cumberland County, the
Amherst Lions and Lioness Clubs are once again combining forces for
the annual Amherst and Area Drug Awareness Poster contest. The contest
is being run in conjunction with EastLink Television.
"Children in West Highlands Elementary, River Hebert Elementary,
Spring Street Academy and Cumberland North Academy are being invited
to enter posters dealing with our theme Drug Abuse Affects Everyone,"
King Lion Bruce MacIntyre said.
"Prizes will be presented to the first, second and third place winners
in each grade from Primary to Grade 6. In addition, a donation will be
made to each school, based on percentage of participation," he added.
All entries must be submitted by Nov. 9 with judging to take place on
Nov. 10. The posters will be on display at the Amherst Lions Community
Centre Nov. 13 to 19. On the final day of the exhibit, all students
and their parents are invited to attend the awards ceremony commencing
at 2 p.m.
The first and second place winners will be entered in the provincial
Lions poster contest.
"In the past, the Lions and Lioness clubs have secured funding to
establish a library of resource materials on the subject of drugs,"
Catherine Jolly, president of the Lioness Club of Amherst said.
Prize money valued at $50 each will be presented in each grade with
$25 for first, $15 for second and $10 for third being awarded.
Those seeking additional information on the contest are asked to
contact any member of the Lions or Lioness Clubs of Amherst.
