SOME POLICE OFFICERS SPOTTED CARRYING GUNS

LONDON - For the first time outside Northern Ireland, armed officers -
their firearms clearly visible in holsters - have been routinely patrolling
British streets. Nottingham police have organized the armed foot patrols to
tackle an escalation in gun crime, much of it thought to be drugs related;
the officers were not "bobbies on the beat," but specialists and they have
not fired their weapons.
