DOCTORS WANT POT LAW CHANGE

MORE than half of doctors believe the current law on cannabis is too
strict and a third say the drug should be legalised, a survey revealed
today.

A quarter of medics believe cannabis is the least addictive out of
tobacco, alcohol, prescribed drugs and illegal drugs.

And nearly half (44%) said it triggered the least serious health
problems out of the same group.

If it was legally available on prescription, more than eight out of 10
doctors would give cannabis to patients with serious illnesses such as
multiple sclerosis (MS) or cancer.

And 54% believe the current law and its enforcement is too
strict.

Campaigners for the legalisation of cannabis and the British Medical
Association welcomed the survey results. A thousand UK doctors were
quizzed by medical website Medix UK.
