MEXICAN DRUG FIGURE UNDER HOUSE ARREST
MEXICO CITY (AP) -- A Mexican judge ordered house arrest for a top drug
trafficker known as "The Lord of the Trucks," because of his alleged
practice of shipping drugs into the United States aboard freight vehicles.
The house-arrest order allows prosecutors to hold Hugo Baldomero Medina
Garza for 90 days while they decide what, if any, charges to file against him.
Medina Garza has been described as one of the chiefs of the Gulf drug
operation following the 1996 arrest of former leader Juan Garca Abrego.
Medina Garza was arrested Nov. 1 outside a beachfront hotel in the port of
Tampico in Tamaulipas state.
