Drug Squads Will Come To The Globe

Local Police Retreats

Yesterday county crime division decided that there will be drug squads at
the Globe during the MTV music awards.

"The risk for drugs increase at these events," says Leif Jennekvist, Chief
of Police at Stockholm County Crime Division.

Last saturday Expressen told about the internal conflicts within the
Stockholm police.

The Globe, where world artists pilgrimag to the MTV music awards on
Thursday, is within the South Suburb district.

Both narcotics officers at the City police and the Rave Commission offered
their assistance, but where rejected.

Manage On Their Own

South suburb police believed, and still believes, that they can manage on
their own. Bruno Jarlestad, spokesperson for the south suburb police says:
"We didn't think there was a reason to call in more people. All according to
the county police chief directive. During his result dialogues he always
talkes about trying to keep the personell force as low as possible as it
costs resources."

But now the south suburb police unit gets slapped on the wrist. Yesterday a
decision was made that mean the county's criminal division will take part in
the work. "A couple of weeks ago we decided to deal with this event in the
same manner we deal with other festivals and events," says Leif Jennekvist,
director for the criminal division in Stockholm County. "Individual officers
has spoken out about what they think, but that's irrelevant, because it is
the police managements opinion that matters, he says.

They Are Also Needed

About south suburb police argument, that the most important issue is
knowledge about the arena, says Jennekvist: "It is a good knowledge, but the
difference is that the Rave Commission's drug squad and Stockholm's drug
task force works with other methods - and they are also needed.

Bruno Jarlestad does not want to criticize the decision, but discontent
shines through. "The Rave Commission wants to come and we might need to
bring in the marine police if it rains alot. Then in case of a hostage drama
I guess we'll have to bring in the national crisis team and some negotiators
as well," he says playfully.
