POT ACTIVIST'S SON CARRIES MARIJUANA PARTY BANNER IN CALGARY

CALGARY (CP) - One is the loneliest number - when you're running for the
Marijuana Party of Canada in Alberta.

Grant Adam Krieger, 20, is the lone Marijuana Party candidate in Alberta and
the son of prominent medicinal marijuana activist Grant W. Krieger. The
elder Krieger has been jailed for possession of pot but refuses to stop
using it because it eases the symptoms of his multiple sclerosis. The
Calgary East candidate says his father wanted to run but his health problems
wouldn't permit it.

"The decision was he was going to run but after his last week of court right
before the federal election was called, he had discussed it with me and he
couldn't do it physically and didn't have the energy to."

"So I told him I would take on the task."

The younger Krieger says the party's platform includes, not surprisingly,
decriminalizing marijuana, paying down the debt and more money for health
care and education.

"I've gotten all kinds of responses from people that say 'Yes, I support you
100 per cent' to people who say 'I'm not really sure about the subject but
as long as it helps people I'll support you'," he said.

"Some people say you know, 'No, I do not support any drugs or anything like
that so get off my doorstep'."

Adam Krieger is working as an apprentice millwright and has seen the
beneficial effects that pot has had on his father. But he says he's not an
avid user.

"It's not something I do every day. I'm one of those people who do it kind
of when you've got a bunch of buddies over and someone's got a joint," said
Krieger.

"You know, it's not really my thing but then again I don't really drink much
either."
