GROWING LIGHTS EXPLODE, INJURING DRUG OFFICER

A Burnaby police officer was injured when he was hit by flying glass
Thursday after two high-powered light bulbs exploded during a drug bust.

RCMP officers were raiding a home in the 6900-block of Marlborough Avenue
that housed 246 plants, grow equipment and a B.C. Hydro bypass. Two grow
lights blew up in an officer's face as he was packing them for transport,
Constable Phil Reid said. The officer suffered minor cuts and was treated
at Burnaby Hospital.

"He's very lucky he didn't lose an eye or lose vision," Reid said.

A 28-year-old resident of the home is facing drug and theft of electricity
charges.
