LEGALIZATION MAKES MORE SENSE THAN DRUG COURTS

Your Nov. 15 editorial "Anti-drug idea offers promise" says "drug courts
make intuitive sense." I disagree.

The concept of co-opting middle-aged lawyers into assisting drug users to
kick their habit is just too ridiculous for words. What's next, cancer
courts where people who eat red meat and don't exercise can be ordered to
mend their ways and eat more veggies?

It's all very well for the Times Colonist to pontificate that "throwing
people in jail for using drugs ... doesn't deal with the root of the
problem," but the drug courts do exactly that when the defendant declines to
follow their advice. What else can they do?

Let's stop all this nonsense and legalize all drugs. It makes no "intuitive
sense" to me that people should be punished for what they choose to ingest
into their own bodies.
