DANNIELLA'S NOSE IS THE WORST I HAVE EVER SEEN
Surgeon's Ban After She Fails Drug Test
The plastic surgeon who refused to operate on Danniella Westbrook's
cocaine-ravaged nose said last night: "The damage is the worst I've seen."
Professor John Celin was speaking after telling the former EastEnders star
she was no longer welcome at his private clinic in London's Knightsbridge.
He insisted she was lying over her claims to have finally beaten her
13-year addiction.
Prof Celin was due to operate on Danniella on Friday, but cancelled when a
blood test revealed she had recently used cocaine.
The American-born doctor said he had warned her he would not treat her if
she continued snorting the drug.
The actress must now search for a surgeon prepared to reconstruct her
septum - the cartilage and skin dividing the nasal passages - which has
been destroyed.
Cocaine constricts the blood vessels in the nose, killing tissue by cutting
off the oxygen supply.
But Prof Celin yesterday said he believed no one would have her as a
patient unless she kicked her pounds 300-a-day habit and feared Danniella
was dicing with death.
He said: "I've been seeing Danniella for three months after she asked me to
help her.
"I had explained to her we would regularly blood-test her to make sure she
was not still taking drugs and she accepted that.
"But we had a result back a few days before she was due to have her
operation and it showed far too high traces of drugs.
"I was very concerned about this so we told Danniella not to come in. It
just would not be right. She needs proper help and she needs to be serious
about wanting to give up drugs.
"I dread the consequences if she does not try to change."
Prof Celin added: "I can't see any other plastic surgeon wanting to treat
her in her current state.
"We have strict guidelines about this sort of treatment, which means
Danniella has to want to beat her addiction.
"I'm afraid she's just not listening. She's not trying to change.
"The damage to her nose is the worst I have seen. It really is in a very
bad state.
"It is reaching a stage where it could be permanently damaged.
"The real sadness is she's a very nice young lady and I feel sorry for her.
I genuinely and sincerely hope she pulls herself together, but I can't see
that happening at the moment."
Danniella, who has a son Kai aged four by drug dealer Robert Fernandez, had
her looks ruined by the damage to her nose.
It has also caused her breathing problems and hit her career.
Pictures of the 26-year-old's disfigured face are being used as a warning
in a Government anti-drugs campaign aimed at children.
Danniella, who used to play Sam Mitchell in the BBC1 soap, had denied the
pounds 10,000 operation was cancelled because she failed a drugs test.
She claimed on Saturday while visiting the Millennium Dome with Kai that
the surgery was put off because Prof Celin had to fly to America.
She also insisted she was not back on cocaine.
But friends say Danniella is in denial over her failure to beat her habit.
