BODY BUILDER AND BROTHER ON DRUG IMPORT CHARGES
A Melbourne court has heard that world champion body-builder Edmund "Sunny"
Schmidt bungled a major drug importation intercepted by Australian Federal
Police last month.
The 47-year-old and his brother Paletesana Schmidt, of Coolaroo in
Melbourne's north, were among five people arrested on November 13 after
federal agents set up a sting to uncover 2.9kg of cocaine allegedly
imported into Australia from Mexico in statues and candles.
Both were charged with being knowingly concerned with importing a
prohibited substance.
The offence carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.
Paletesana Schmidt was granted bail in Melbourne Magistrates Court today.
Sunny Schmidt's lawyers told the court he would be seeking bail later this
month.
