ADDICTS NEED OUR HELP TO QUIT, NOT TO INJECT
Re: "Clement's wrong. Safe injection sites have merit," by Marg
Grattan, Letters, Aug. 28.
People are missing the point on the issue of safe injection sites.
Giving addicts a safe place to inject drugs is doing them no good.
Instead, offer them help in beating their addiction and let them
decide whether to accept or not.
Should society ignore the down and out? Absolutely not. But anything
short of discouraging drug use is just adding to the problem. Offer
financial assistance for detox services. If addicts accept, great. If
they don't, don't waste any more time on them.
