SAFE INJECTION SITES ARE TIMELY

The proposal for safe-injection rooms in the Downtown Eastside is
timely and necessary (Activists, drug users seek funds for
safe-injection rooms, Nov. 24). Government at all levels should put
forward the funding needed for this to take action.

Safe-injection rooms provide a place for those on the margins of
society to shoot up in an environment that is staffed with people to
whom they can reach out. Harm-reduction initiatives such as this
improve the health of drug users, and help prevent diseases like HIV
from spreading.
