IOWA CITY DUMPS DARE PROGRAM
Iowa City - The Iowa City School District wants to eliminate the DARE
program next year because it no longer fits with the district's health
curriculum, Superintendent Lane Plugge said Tuesday.
DARE is a drug prevention program sponsored by police in which a police
officer visits a classroom weekly during the school year to educate
students about drug abuse.
"We wanted to do something that wasn't so stand-alone, something more
integrated into the entire health curriculum," Plugge said.
