A DRUG WAR ALTERNATIVE

Marijuana is one of the most studied plants around, used medicinally
and recreationally for thousands of years. A 1999 Institute of
Medicine Report concluded that marijuana is recommended medically in
limited circumstances.

Nonetheless, entrenched interests riding the drug-war gravy train
continue to claim further research is needed.

Not only should medical marijuana be made available to patients in
need, but adult recreational use should be regulated as well. Compared
to alcohol and tobacco, it is relatively harmless. But leaving its
distribution in the hands of organized crime puts children at great
risk.

As for medical marijuana, doctors should decide what is best for
patients, not drug warriors, politicians or Supreme Court judges.
