'ACCIDENTAL OVERDOSE'?

I read in Thursday's obituary for Eddy Shaver that he died "of an
accidental heroin overdose."

In what way was it accidental? Was a hypodermic needle on the floor as he
walked around the house, and he accidentally stepped on it? Or was he
walking around outside his home and accidentally fell into some shrubbery
that had a heroin syringe in it? Or was someone ingesting heroin and that
person accidentally gave Eddy some?

What does all of this mean? Is it OK to take heroin as long as you don't
overdose? Are you condoning the use of heroin?

You are sending the wrong message to people -- especially young people --
by phrasing this in the manner that you did. You should have written, "Eddy
Shaver died from heroin."

If you had, maybe one person would have determined that you can die from
taking heroin -- not that it is OK as long as you don't have an "accidental
overdose."
