COURT AND CONGRESS TRAMPLE ON OUR RIGHTS

Dear Editors,

I am happy to see the many letters from outraged citizens concerning the
political manuevering of the highest court in the land. The Supreme Court
recently trumped the will of the voters of California too.

Proposition 215 was passed by 63 percent of California voters in 1996,
allowing medical use of marijuana. It is known as the Compassionate Use Act.

The law was rendered irrelevant until the court decides whether it is truly
in favor of states' rights or maintaining the federal government's death
grip on our civil rights.

The people of California will know whether they were right or wrong to vote
yes on Proposition 215 when the Supreme Court tells them in June.

Congress also has little regard for the will of the people. Washington D.C.
residents passed a similar referendum concerning medical marijuana in 1998,
but Congress preformed backflips to prevent Initiative 59 from taking effect.

These outrageous acts have as much to do with marijuana as tea did at the
Boston Tea Party. It's about control.
